What kind of AUX lights do you have on your Discovery and what is your specific use?


I am thinking of buying 4 lights to be mounted on the roof rack, and will be mainly using them when on dark windy roads / trails. So personally I am looking at 2 driving lights and 2 fog lights for a long and wide bundle of light. I just can't justify spending more than $150 / pair when night driving is not something that will happen very often.

Hella Rallye 3000. Came on the truck when I bought it. Going to change them out for Lightforce when I have the money. Lightforce allows me to customize the light to whatever I need by changing the filter.

Light Force is such a great light, don't see alot of them outside California, but I seriously believe there are no better lights on the market.

3000K's, kind of yellow aren't they?

I am running 3 rectangular, Arco 35 watt HID's on my front bumper and plan on installing a set of 35 watt, 6000K HID's in my headlights. Should be able to see pretty well even with my poor vision.

 

Yeah, they're almost a pure yellow/gold color, but they're also the brightest HID light that I'm aware of.

If you ever make it to Alaska you'll see Lightforce everywhere. Most of the semis up there run them because of the amount of light they put out. I have a set on the front of my Dodge and want a second set as well as a set for my Rover. I agree that there isn't a better light made, especially for a halogen bulb. Would love to try a set of the Lightforce HID some time but that will have to wait until I win the Power Ball lottery.

The K factor doesn't determine the brightness, but the color, if you need to go brighter go to the 50watt.
I picked the 6000 K because they are as white as it gets before turning bluish.

It is my understanding that the lower temperature bulbs actually produce more light than the hotter bulbs. I don't know if there is a point where the temperature drops so low that ceases to be the case.

Depending on where the lights are mounted, the 3000K bulbs and the yellowish light they produce may be perfect. I like the definition yellow lights give compared to white lights. Some things stand out better under the yellow light. I would never have yellow as my primary lights such as headlights but for auxiliary lights I think the yellow would work great.

Street Wolf - Let us know how converting your Hellas works. I have thought about it for mine but have been afraid of melting the lights. A conversion kit to HID for my Hellas would be a lot cheaper than a set of Lightforce lights.
