Default What is this leaking...Anyone?

This connector is located on the passenger side, along the top of the chassie near the transfer case. Its connected to a rectangular box marked "tank" and "purge". I don't know what it is. It apparently only leaks when the heater is running. I thought I smelled coolant a couple of days ago but I'm not sure. I checked the collant level and it was in fact low. I haven't used the heater since and it hasn't leaked anymore. Can anyone tell me? The picture I intended to add did not show up in the preview. Perhaps it will appear in the post.

That is part of your EVAP system, "tank" is the fuel tank, "purge" is the carbon canister.
The carbon canister is what catches all the gas vapor from inside your gas tank, then turns the vapor into liquid and returns it to the gas tank.
Heater on or off should make no difference.
Is your check engine light on?

Thank you for the quick response. The heater may be coincidental. The check engine light has not come on. Is it possible that fluid from the transfer case is leaking and simply being slung on this hose connector? I smelled of the fluid and really couldn't smell anything. The edge of the leak is right on the connector so I concluded that it was the hose. Many Thanks.

What color was the fluid? Dark brown? Looks like motor oil only heavier? Rub it between your fingers, slimy or oily? Then it is gear lube, if it was leaking gas then you would smell gas. Coolant would be slimy.

I'll look again. I take it that the large drum in the left of the picture is a brake drum? Perhaps I should've mentioned earlierthat this an '03 DII. Whatever it is its very thin with a dark brown to black color.

Yes that is your parking brake drum, and that is gear lube.

Nothing.
Just check the fluid level in the transfer case at every oil change, top it off when it gets to low.
