Default What is this in my transfer case?

Hello guys, as part of my restoration I'm replacing my transmission and doing an overhaul on my transfer case and installing a diff lock. Today I pulled out the transfer box and when I pulled the front input seal I notice chunks of some brass looking material behind the seal. I don't see any brass component anywhere in the input and I'm afraid it may be internal and that something broke and somehow the pieces ended up by the front bearing and seal. Do you guys know if there is any brass or golden looking parts inside of the transfer case? Or where they might come from?
When I emptied the gear oil from the case I didn't see any golden material on the plug magnet (maybe because is a non-ferrous metal?).
Thanks.

Welp if youre that far into it... might be worth it to split it open before you re install it. There are several pieces in the T-case that are brass. Might be worth it to rebuild or buy a used one with less miles on it. As you said brass isn't magnetic so it wouldn't get stuck to the magnet. You can also open the inspection plate on the t-case and see quite a few bits, see if something is blown apart.

***update***
Today I finished taking apart the transfer box and differential. It was the thrusters behind the planetary gears. One of them was completely gone and the other ones are in really bad shape. I'm glad I took it apart before I installed it in my project and looks that the master overhaul kit will help a lot.
I will post some pictures of the work done on it.
Thank you guys.

Thruster gone

Cracks on the other ones
