Default What is this part?

Mechanic recommended I change this part because he said some air could escape and cause it to lose power. It is connected to the MAF I believe.

If it is not cracked and/or has a hole than I don't understand why it has to be replaced.

you should switch all your clips to hose clips so you can really tighten them up.
did he do a smoke test?
is your CEL coming on?

Well he just replaced ignition coil, spark plugs and cables because my check engine light was flashing and the car was misfiring. It is working now and he cleared the codes but he told me just to be safe I should get that part replaced because it may cause a misfire some time in the future. I looked at it and I can't seem to find any cracks. He is going to replace it for free. Is it an expensive part?

mechanics do nothing for free.

are you losing cooalnt? instead of having him clear the codes why don't you have him read the codes and give them to you. or better yet get to a parts store like auto zone to read them and come abck to us witht he exact 4 digit codes so we can help you. where are you located? what kind of cables and plugs did he put in? I don't think your mechanic as a clue as to what he is talking about.

Yeah, he might not have a clue.

Parts I got:
HUCO ignition coil
Kingsborne 8mm Cables
NGK Platinum spark plugs

I live in San Diego, CA. Last time I went to Auto Zone they said California was the only state where they didn't offer the free service to check the codes.

You need a new mechanic, he is taking you for a long ride and your buying the gas.
That is the air intake tubing, unless it is cracked or broken in someway leave it alone.

If it is cracked you will not get misfires, you will get rough running or a high idle from the vacuum leak.

Take your truck and go home this guy is a screwball.

are you losing coolant? buy yourself a cheap ODB2 scanner. something like this

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...RH9QZJQ4VXQS9Q

so you can read your own codes. it will save you big time in the long run. Once you get it, get your codes to us so we can help properly diagnose what is wrong with your truck.
