Its a 4.6.
SE7 means you have the middle model, with 7 seats, hence the 7. SE models just have a few extra goodies like wood trim and double sunroofs. Its nicer than the S model, but below the HSE model. So basically each level has different interior features, nothing technical really.

I'll leave the rest of your question to the others.

Your truck may have had the engine replaced when the oil pump blew up.
The 4.0 and 4.6 are the exact same block and heads.
The 4.0 was last made in 2002 not 2001.
Except for the P-38 Range Rover which had a 4.6 as a option and was standard on the HSE model the 4.6 did not show up until 2003 when it went into Disco's.
There are a small number of 2003 Disco's with the 4.6 that have a defective engine and the oil pump blows up destroying the engine and then needing a engine replacement.
The 4.0 and 4.6 are "plug-N-play", pull one out and drop in the other and vise versa.

Not sure how long you have had your Disco, but it sounds like you need to read your owners manual so you are a little more up to date on what you have.
By the way, how many miles on your truck, has the front drive shaft been replaced and have you spoken to Rover to see if you vin. number is on their list for possible oil pump/engine failures?

That's not always enough, though.

For example, my just-purchased '00 very much appears to have the heated windshield -- I can't imagine anything *else* those vertical, 1/8" pitch wiggly lines all across it could be -- but I don't have the corresponding *switch*.

I'm assuming the dealer can print me a build sheet.

And, on point, everything I've read suggests that the 4.0 was built up til 04, and the 4.6 an option on the last 2 years of Disco IIs.

You should have a front defrost switch on your a/c control panel with 2 more switches to the left of it, 1 for the front, 1 for the rear.
If not get back to me and I'll help you with it.
As for engines, the 4.0 was last out in 02, the 03 and 04 were only 4.6's.

The manual illustrates where that switch is supposed to be, Mike, but I have an empty filler "button" there.

Baylink, it is common for the glass shop to install the wrong windshield on a DII as there are 2 different ones, heated and non heated.
You dont have the switch but you have the heated glass.
It has also been known to happen the other way around too, and those people get pissed when they hit the front defrost button and the glass stays fogged.

So here's the real question: if they didn't spec it with heated front from the factory, was there a place on the harness for them to plug the glass into? IE: can I just install the switch, and have heated glass, or would that be too easy? :-)
