Default What is this sound?

I have gotten rid of my exhaust leaks but I still have this high pitched rattling noise that occurs at the front of the engine - especially when accelerating. Thoughts?

Take the belt off and see if you still hear it.

Noise is gone. So what does this tell me? Belt and tensioner are new.

Perhaps the harmonic balancer? Do those go bad and have a high pitched rattle?

Yep, check the idler, that is the next most common bearing to go out. Alternator bearing, compressor bearing, ps pump are less common but a possibility.

Was so close to replacing this pulley but I ended up with the wrong part. Waiting....

Removing the old idler

Bearing is rattling and looks shot.
