Default What is this thing? And other small questions

A couple questions on the attached images, if anyone knows what's up.

On the first one, there seems to be a slow oil leak coming from the emergency brake clutch/drum in back of the transfer case. Any idea what's going on here? I recently had my transfer box resealed, and it started leaking again along the mid-chassis horizontal rail almost immediately. Took it back and they re-sealed it again. I'm now concerned that they botched the job the second time around too.

On the second one, anyone know what this unconnected electrical connector is for? This view is under the truck on the passenger's side looking forward. Not sure how to find it in the RAVE since I don't have a clue what it's for.

On the third and fourth pictures, I was looking around for the amplifier, which the RAVE seems to say is under the passenger's seat. I didn't find jack, but there's another connector not connected to anything. Any idea what I'm looking at here? If the amplifier isn't here, where would it be? In the dash somewhere?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Leak at the e brake drum sure looks like a t case leak.sorry to say considering it has been fixed twice.
The mystery electrical connector you describe in the picture......
I am assuming this is a left side drive /North America truck?
Where you describe it, it is near where the a.c.e. Block would be if it had ace which it appears that it does not have. I do not see anything similar in that area on my 2002 d2
As for the amp. It is under the drivers seat on North American trucks. The c.d. Changer is under the passenger seat if it has one
Hope that helps

Thanks much – I'm taking it back to the shop that did the original repair tomorrow. It's been about two months since they did the repairs, but hopefully they'll fix this for free.

I don't have ACE indeed, and yes, this is a left-hand driver. That would explain the hanging connector. Will look on the driver's side for the amp.

Well, I looked under the driver's seat and unbolted what turned out to be a Bosch Transmission Controller – clearly not the amp, which is still MIA somewhere. I have to assume it's behind the dash despite what the RAVE says.

Edit: It looks like this is the electronic automatic transmission ECU, and the amp may be attached to the same bracket somehow. I don't see it, though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you only have an amp if you've got the upgraded sound system? you may not have one at all.

Also, are you sure the bearings in your Transfer Case are good? If the output shaft is what's leaking then the bearing might be allowing too much play and pre-maturely wearing out the seal. Just an idea.

If their is a factory amp it IS under the drivers seat. Yes you the trans controller is there too.
Is this a base/ s.d. Model?
I guess one of should ask. What year and what model?

Welp, I took it back to the shop and they're going to try swapping out the rear transfer case seal in hopes that it stops leaking. They've already re-sealed it twice, though, and the guy was suggesting I might have to condemn the case if they can't get it to seal properly the third time. Seems like an iffy assessment at best given that the case itself shows no sign of mechanical trouble. I suggested if it consistently leaks maybe the breather tube is clogged, forcing oil out other seals, though I don't really know what I'm talking about. Maybe I'm doomed to have a leaky transfer box.

Will have to wait and see – they're doing the job in a week or so.

I still can't find the goddamn amp. I have to assume there's an amp somewhere...otherwise, what powers the speakers? It could be integrated into the head unit – I really have no experience with this stuff. The car is a pretty basic 2004 model. I'm not aware of it being anything but a plain old Disco II. Definitely no special audio/video options, just a CD player/radio combo.

If there is not an amp under the drivers seat, then you do not have one. My son has an S and it does not have an amp either. Mine is an 03 SE7 and it has amp under the driver seat and cdchanger under the passenger seat.

Thanks – definitely no amp under the driver's seat. Just the transmission ECU.
