What type of fluids can I buy
I have a 2000 discovery II
What type (brand) of fluids do you recommend and can I buy them at Auto Zone or others,or do I have to buy from the dealer only?
Automatic transmission fluid (what brand and where to buy)?
80/90W gear oil (what brand and where to buy)?
Synthetic Power steering fluid (what brand and where to buy)?
Engine oil?

RE: What type of fluids can I buy
I use Mobil1 full syn for the following:
ATF for transmission
10W-40 (depends on your climate) for engine oil
75W-90 gear oil for diffs and t-case
K&N 3001 (tall version) oil filter
any DOT 4 brake fluid, like Valvoline
These can all be purchased at AutoZone

RE: What type of fluids can I buy
Asking someone what brand of fluid to use is just likeasking what brand of beer do you drink.
As long as you pick amajor brand that you can easily find and can afford to buy it is all good.
I really like Mobil 1, but if I didnt use full synthetic I would use Castrol. I dont use Castrol Syntec because it is to hard to find in my area.
Whatever you do stick with the brand that you choose. Do this with motor oil especially, engines are picky, dont know why, but they are.
Any of the major stores, like AutoZone, NAPA, PepBoys will have a good assortment of fluids. It is wise to make sure that you can also buy these fluids at retail stores for when you are traveling. Not every body has a AutoZone for example.
Does that help answer your question?

As long as you stick with synthetic for the diffs and t/case, power steering and brake fluid you will be fine.
Vavoline makes a good synthetic for the brakes and steering, Mobil 1 or Royal purple for the gears and if you want a full synthetic for the tranny you will need to have a shop do a full fluid exchange.
Use a good oil filter like a Mobil1 -301 or a K&N 3001 for best results and only paper air filters from the dealer.
