Was under the Disco today and noticed whatever hose this is connected to is leaking back near the rear driveshaft area. The hose runs from this canister, along the frame rail toward the back of the car where it terminates into some kind of valve-ish looking thing alongside a mess of hoses.
As mollusc said, the component you pictured is the fuel leak detection pump filter that is described on page 17-2-25. The full system of which it is a part is shown in a diagram on page 17-2-4.
It seems you likely misidentified the line you say is leaking. The line from the filter canister runs to the leak detection pump, which connects to the EVAP canister.
Perhaps you can instead post a pic or pics of the line where you see the leak.
Haha, very likely I’ve indeed misidentified the source. Fluid is emanating from this unit, and it looked like that hose, but perhaps it’s another in that system? I didn’t think this carried fluid though.
It’s only on later models I think? My 2002 doesn’t have it. But I also thought it was only on California trucks, yet this 2004 of mine is from Philadelphia and as we can see, has it installed.
I'm no EVAP system expert, but as I understand it the only substance in the EVAP system would be fuel vapors, which would quickly dissipate and would not be visible as a fluid.
I welcome anyone who knows more about the EVAP system and can educate me if I'm wrong, but I'd still like to see a pic of where you are seeing the leak.
Also, any fluid that would be leaking out of that system would smell strongly of gasoline, as it would be vapour condensate.
The evap canister is pretty simple to remove to check to see whether it is full of liquid. Maybe fuel is somehow getting in there through the vent pipe?
All NAS vehicles should have at least some of those components. There are a couple of different configurations, but the purge valve and charcoal canister are common across them all. See the "Emission Control" section of the RAVE.
