What would you offer on this '04?
2004 SE
It's at a LR dealership, so the list price is sky high. They have told me that the coin and ash trays are broken, which they quoted $260 to fix. And the cowl is broken, which they quoted $715 to fix.
Assuming everything checks out with an independent mechanic, and based deducting the repair costs they're quoting, I was thinking an offer of around $8k seems right.
I'm sure that's too lowball for them, but curious what folks here think.

NADA "clean retail" is $10,150. I would normally offer at a discount to that, say $9k. But it needs approx. $1k in repairs to be "clean retail" so that's how I came up with it.
Any thoughts on what you would think is more reasonable?

Seems high to me.... I mean, you're still going to have to do a full DiscoMike's 60K overhaul, likely replace the driveshaft, etc. Plus - condition doesn't look all that great... broken cowl, broken trays, that steering wheel looks horrible -- I wonder what else is lurking? The kind of owner who can't or won't fix the broken trays suggests that it was a typical minimum-maintenance owner, which means there could be significant mechanical headaches. What prompted them to sell @ only 60K miles?... usually it's the dealer telling them "head gasket" or "ABS replacement" or some other $2-3K quote that gets them looking at a LR4 and trading it in.

At 60k it's probably an even price if it was in exceptional shape. I think 10k would be a good price.
What they quoted to fix the coin trays is total BS. You could fix it yourself for less than $15.
I put a leather cover on my steering wheel and it looks way better.

Ash tray fix is basically free. Someone showed a neat trick on here a few days ago. The cowl can be sealed with a bead of black silicon and not even be visible. At 60k $9k is prob the lowest you will get it for. If it were me though, 60k would concern me more than 110k with a recent headgasket job. At 60k you have to wonder if it was not driven much for a reason, and the headgaskets are coming. No way around it. If it has the factory head gaskets they will eventually go.

I would offer $8K to get them moving in your direction with the logic you stated, and expect to pay between $9-10K. Head gaskets would be my concern as well. You will want to have your indy shop check for signs of issues, also, read the ODBII codes as well as the LR specific ABS codes for the D2. I would also get a compression check on possibly the left and right cylinders closest to the firewall.
