What's on the horizon for Land Rover
Curiosity killed the cat...I know, I know. I need another Land Rover like I need a hole in the head.
But does anyone know what Land Rover has up their sleeve in the next couple of years. Any hints that they may re-introduce the disco.? Bring diesel to the American line up? Anything OTHER than the LR3 and Freelander?

RE: What's on the horizon for Land Rover
I know last year they re-introduced the Defender in the UK, it looks basically the same, except some interior stuff. The sad thing is, it wont be coming to the US for a while (if ever), there just isnt a large enough market here.
As for purchase rumors of Land Rover, thats completly up in the air. There doesnt seem to be a clear answer on if Ford is selling, or even wants to Sell Land Rover/Jaguar. I dont see why they would but I don think its going to effect production.
Unfortunatly, I think disco's are a thing of the past in Land Rover's eyes... But hey, you never know they might have something up their sleeves! But like I said I wouldnt count on it. If you want the newest thing from LR, get an LR2, but I'm not recommending it. If I had to buy an LR now I would go for a 2004 Disco.

RE: What's on the horizon for Land Rover
Rumor going around from a friend of mine who works for FORD is that BMW is negotiating for the Land Rover division. BMW already bought the Land Rover car division back in 2000. They want the international market for the Range Rover. I would consider a new Land Rover if BMW owns the company, but not FORD.
It's not that I hate FORD, I own a 2003 Mustang Convertable. Great little "toy" I mean car. However, the Land Rover is a very exceptional vehicle and needs to keep that certain levelinthe 4X4 world. FORD has only proven that they can compete in the 4X4 with their F Series trucks.

RE: What's on the horizon for Land Rover
I've been keeping an eye on the Auto news lately and it's very clear that Ford plans to sell Rover/Jag. Volvo is still up in the air. They are getting bids from companies.
Interestingly, there was (is) an in-dept article in one of the current Land Rover magazines (L/R Monthly, I think) that reviewed ownership under BMW and Ford. The author was involved with L/Rupper managementduring the BMW years. According to his account, there was a huge cultural clash between the Britts and Germans during this time that mixed like oil and water. He indicated it was a miserable situation. The Rover was done primarily by BMW engineers.
Under Ford the relationshiphas been much more workable, he indicated. It will be interesting how thing might fit if they were bought out by the Germans again or and Indian company.

I would not like to see BMW buy LR again as they know
nothing about 4x4's the X5 is as close as it gets.
I do like BMW cars, very nice.
After driving a friends 07 M5 its was like summiting Mount Rainier
leaves you out of breath.
It has so many little things on it that as it get older to fix it a healthy
bank roll will be needed.
Rover cars will say made in China as the sale was done over a
year ago, at that time Ford had to buy the name Land Rover.

RE: What's on the horizon for Land Rover
Rover car company went bust and a company from China bought it.
They will have a world wide operation with that they
will start making some cars in Oklahoma in 2010 this was
in a press release.
At the time Ford had to buy the name Land Rover from the
bankrupt Rover Group or the new Rover company could have
had their own Land Rover.
