Default What's the priority on updating front drive shaft

I have a 2003 Disco with 70k miles. It has the original front driveshaft. Is this a "don't drive the truck untill fixed issue" or a "Drive, but fix as soon as possible" issue? I don't hear any "chirping" or squeaking, but I may not know what to listen for.

Get one right away. Pretty cheap for a piece of mind. But you can drive in the meantime IMHO.

I'm looking at the Lucky8 shaft. Is the switch something I can do in the driveway?

Yes. Remove the 8 nuts and install the new shaft with new hardware.

I just ordered a front shaft from Lucky8 also and it should be here Saturday. At $228 the price is hard to beat and I haven't heard anything bad about the drive shaft yet. Are you going to there new website? I find it much easier to navigate around and find things.

It is possible to rebuild them (from my own experience) but with care, some knowledge and the right tools. It's a bit of a PITA and takes a few hours to do properly with a LARGE swear box to hand 'cos believe me you'll do some cursing. IMHO it's not worth rebuilding for the price Lucky8 charge and theirs has some warranty no doubt.

TBH, you'll find the 3 UJ's and the centre bearing will cost over half the L8 price and then all the work is down to you.

These are the best quality GKN parts and as you can see they ain't cheap. DISCOVERY 2 1998 TO 2004 GKN HEAVY DUTY UJ FRONT PROPSHAFT REPAIR KIT - JGS 4x4 Land Rover Parts

^, good point.
Shipping cost might not be good, but at least you can enjoy the ,almost guaranteed, 85degree beautiful day, to do you rebuilding.
