What's up with the window buttons and position of ignition
Hi all, I just bought an 2004 Land Rover Discovery ll. I really love it, but whoever designed the window buttons location and position of the ignition as well as the door handle location on the inside needs there head examined. It's ridiculous! Anyone else with me on that?
Ignition is on the steering column, same as almost any other vehicle from this era. Nothing startling there.
Many vehicles have the window controls on the central console. Unusual, perhaps, but nothing outlandish.
Door handles... yeah. A little strange.

Window switches are only in the middle so that they don't need different assemblies for LHD and RHD models. I was a bit confused at first by the orientation of the switches (I think intuitively the up/down buttons should be flipped) but you get used to it pretty quickly.
The location of the ignition is normal but the way that it works definitely is weird. I've had a valet ask me how to get the key out before.

Welcome to the forum. Please add your location to your profile information, and create a signature that includes the model year of your truck. I know that info is apparent in your first post, but we'll be better able to help you if it's already there when you post in the future.
Push to turn for the ignition is pretty common on European vehicles from the late 1970s on, in my experience.
It's a simple job to open up the window control panel and reorient/move switches according to your own preferences.

My wife actually doesnt like to drive the D2 because of the door handle.
I asked her - "how often do you actually use it, like once when you get to work and once when you get home".....
She wasnt amused...........
I'm happy NOT having all of those window and door lock controls on the door. Less likely it'll get jacked up by weather etc and less wear not being on the door IMO.

I think this has been the configuration in every modern car that I’ve owned.
