Wheel Bearing

Wheel Bearing
I just bought a 2000 Disco 2. The wheel bearing just went out on it. I am replacing the bearing myself; I removed lugs and tire didn't come off. Removed center cap only to find a huge nut holding the center on. I am now trying to come up with a socket big enough to take this off!
I was disturbed because this is a different size nut & won't come off with the standard lug wrench on the vehicle! If I would have had a flat, I would have been pretty upset to not even be able to remove my tire. Kinda dumb for the king of off road vehicles to not pack the right lug wrenches(Hate to gripe, because I love Rovers(this is my 2nd)).
Anyhow, any advice on replacing bearing. I'd hate to put it all back together and have missed something that someone more experienced would have known to do. I know sometimes it's the little things that help make things install easier or last longer!

RE: Wheel Bearing
140,000 on truck. I have to replace it because it just went out(definitely shot now). It was making a loud grinding noise (sometimes), when I bought and the prev. owner had it checked by his mechanic who said it was the bearing.
After driving it home, we drove it again and the hub went. The tire was leaning in and grease leaking out as we rolled back in the home garage. Luckily we had only made it down the road when it started going and were able to get it home w/ no issues.
You are the pro, let me know what you think.
I have had one other Rover('95 Disco), but never did anything but very minor repair to that.

RE: Wheel Bearing
I finally got the wheel off last night. The hub was welded to the rim, from the bearing heating up. I had to drive the truck up and down the driveway with the lugs off to get it to finally loosen.
Had to take out the half shaft axle to get all parts apart, and now I have a replacement cv boot on order. The old one must have ripped when the hub went.
DOES ANYONE KNOW IF YOU HAVE TO USE AXLE DOPE ON THE ROVER AXLE OR JUST GREASE? WHEN WE PULLED THE HALF-SHAFT THERE WAS NO DOPE, BUT I DON'T WANT TO GOOF THIS UP!
This was the first time me and my friend have seen a hub self-welded to a rim.
