The rear brakes on the Disco were toast, so I decided to do brakes all around while I had it up on jack stands. Figured I might as well hit the rear wheels with a fresh coat of paint while I had them off. They were looking pretty rough with 17 years of road use. Paint was peeling in places, and I just could not get them clean any longer. Amazon Prime had the Duplicolor Paint Shop premix Lacquer at the door the next day. Power washed the aluminum wheels. The hit them with a coarse 3M scuff pad. Shot three coats of etching primer to help fill in the dings and give the paint something to hold onto. Sanded the primer with 1000 grit dry, and wiped them down with lacquer thinner. Sprayed three coats of silver metallic, three coats of metallic clear, and three coats of gloss clear. Buffed with a light polish. Stuck on the new LR caps I bought a few weeks ago. Came out pretty good. They aren't perfect, but they look good from ten feet away.
That looks great. Go ahead and coat them now to help keep them clean. Ceramic coatings are pretty easy to do yourself, especially on wheels. There are a few non-ceramic coatings like Ammo Reflex that are also really easy to apply.
I just ordered some Terrfirma Steelies which I am planning on painting, do you recommend the same steps for new wheels also?
If the tires are off I'd have them powder coated. I didn't want to go through the aggravation of having to take off the tires, and have them remounted. If you are buying the rims only, have them powder coated. It will be more durable and last longer.

Yeah the tires are off as they're brand new wheels. I put in a call to several places locally to see if they can paint match the Chawton white, no one has replied yet. (Fun fact about the color name, I used to live very close to Chawton England when I was young. Never made the connection until I googled the paint code)
chawton white would look good on an epsom green rover. I think Limestone is the series roof color and that would probably look better than white. I plan on painting the roof of my epsom green d2 in the LR limestone color this spring.
I sandblasted and powdercoated mine myself if anyone has any questions. Getting through the old paint was no problem but the primer on the wheels was a PITA. You can get powder from Prismatic Powders.
