Default Wheels studs breaking off???

Not my disco but the wife's van. 4 wheel studs turned off removing the front wheels to do brake pads, so I'm replacing all the studs as a precaution. In 40 years of working on vehicles I've never had this happen. Is this to be expected after 125K miles or did the shop over torque the lug nuts after rotating and balancing?

The shop probably over torqued them with an impact wrench. They are suppose the use a torque wrench and torque them to specs but they never do. It's just to time consuming, I guess.

Yea, I know. When I bought my Disco it came with 3 month old Michelin tires which was great. But when it came time to rotate the tires all of the lug nuts were rounded off. I had to replace all of the lug nuts. The tire place apparently didn't have/use the right size socket.

Sounds like they werte over torqued (ham fisted "mechanic" with an air ratchet) and probably put on dry and dirty. It happens.

I think you're doing the right thing to replace them all. You'll avoid annoying and possibly dangerous problems later.

Yeah it sucked. After replacing 10 wheel studs I found that half of the lug nuts have stripped threads. So I'm in for a set of lug nuts as well and most probably replacing the rear wheel studs.

You have to be somewhat responsible and tell whoever is working on your truck to torque to 103 with a torque wrench. If they screw them up, go back with your old work order and demand they pay the piper.
