Default When it rains it pours...

So I got the power steering fixed and its running great now. Little to no whining when I turn the wheel, and it runs strong. However, when I got in about a half hour ago, the key wouldn't turn. I did the typical jiggle and rocked the car and fiddled with the shifter, but no dice. I waited for about 15 minutes to collect myself (this is where I typically punch something and immediately start calculating how much the thing I broke cost....yea anger management!!).

So I jammed the damn key in hard and turned and it started up. I already searched ignition switch problems but wasn't able to come up with anything. Any tips?

try another key, spray a very small amount of WD40 onto the key first then insert it

NO! do not spray WD into the ignition switch. Use the graphite lube. WD will kill it for sure!!

Since it is Winter I'll mention that if the vehicle sits out in sub freezing temperatures, make sure there is no moisture on the key before you insert it into the ignition switch. If the key is wet (or was dropped in the snow like I did) it will freeze the switch as soon as you insert the key.

Not sure if that could be what happened to you or not.

If the key shows wear, take it to a lock shop and have a new key cut FAT.They can make up for the wear.

I have the same issue, i always have a hard time turning the key to start the truck, i even noticed that the key is a little bent from the struggle.

I guess ill use the graphite lube, and see what happens.

Im in San Diego, so no freezing...

I had the same problem. Put the graphite on the key and a small amount in the key hole. Work the key in and out a few times and then cycle the ignition a few times. I have only had to do that once in the year I've owned he truck. Oh and the mysterious black smudge on your shorts for the next week or so is from your keys! Hit the door locks with the graphite at the same time.
