After much forum reading I've decided that the best choice (for me at least) are DBA rotors. The issue is finding them though. I haven't found a good site on google that sells the gold series that I feel safe buying from or are in a decent price range. I checked expedition exchange but they're out of the rotors for the D2.

Anyone have experience finding these for a decent price on a reputable site? I'm not certain of part numbers so that makes it doubly hard to find.

I coupled with Akebono brake pads per DiscoMike's recommendation they are excellent

I tried an email yesterday and called 5 minutes ago as of this posting to no response on either. I'll try Ken in a minute...I have the pads already on the way. I have a grinding noise when I stop hard, or come to a stop over a long distance so need everything replaced at this point. It doesn't really pull in one direction regularly (though it has done it randomly but rarely in the past) so I dont think I have a bad caliper (I hope).

 

Oh yeah here are the part numbers for my 2004 disco 2

Akebono EUR493 EURO Ultra-Premium rear
Akebono EUR676 EURO Ultra-Premium front

These are cross drilled and slotted
Fronts – DBA 4528XS
Rears – DBA 4093XS

 

Ya he quited me like $390 for all 4 rotors, slotted only, didn't have drilled. I guess they don't make them for the D2 anymore in drilled. Going to shop around else give him a call back and place an order.

He also said something like drilled on a heavy vehicle will cause them to crack easier though I was under the assumption that drill holes allow for more expansion so crack LESS. Either way $400 for a full set of DBA rotors isn't that bad considering for the gold hats drilled and slotted on EE is like $120/rotor. This will save me like $80.

 

He's right, drilled rotors will crack. The drilling creates stress risers in the metal, that over time will develop into cracks in the rotor.

There is not a word of truth to that statement that DBA slotted and drilled rotors will crack, yes, a lot of the cheap after market rotors will have this problem.
I also think I remember seeing a thread that stated that DBA wasn't going to be making any more for Rovers, so I would call every where and buy what you can at any price.
By the way, I know have close to 110,000 miles on my DBA's are they are running strong.

 

I guess i'll give him a call back and get the un-drilled wiper slot rotors. $400 is still cheaper I can find anywhere else for the 4000 series rotors. Anything cheaper is the base model "street" series.
