Whine when I let off the gas, any help would be appreciated...
I just bought a 2003 discovery II with only 30k miles at an auction and the warranty expired last month. When ever I let off the gas i get a whining sound when the car decelerates and when the car is coasting it sounds like more of a ratteling sound (maybe a bad bearing is my guess) . The sound is noticable at 25 MPH and gets louder with speed. My 99 Discovey II never made this sound and it has me alarmed. Could it be the transfer case, drive line, transmission? Any help would be appreciated...
Have you check/changed all your drive line fluids? Have you listened to your belt/pulleys/alternator and a/c compressor?
I had something like this a while back, I also had to replace the idler bearings and tensioner pulley recently so they're likely. Oddly the new tensioner pulley is louder than the old one once I packed it with synthetic grease, thinking about pulling it and re-packing it too.
I checked my belt/pulleys/alternator and a/c compressor but i didnt they're the problem. the noise changes with speed not engine RPM. My local Land Rover repair guy thinks its my frony Diff. Any suggestions on how to pinpoint the problem. I changed the diff oil and that didnt help.
You need to call me so we can play 20 question/answers to find the problem.
