Default Whirring on startup

Hey all, new to the site. I recently bought a 2003 discovery, and thetruck is operating perfectly. Only real issue I have is when I initially turn it over, there is a whirring noise on startup for about 30 seconds, and then it ceases.

Nothing operational, but I am wondering if there is a new fan, belt, etc.that I need, or if this is typical on startup. I was told that it could possibly a secondary air pump, not sure if I have one or not, is this the case? I am by no means an adept DIYer, so forgive my ignorance. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Ialso own a 2003 Disco... I've always noticed aTurbine type sound at startup. Sometimes it lasts for +/- 30 seconds. Once or twice it continued for several minutes. Could be normal?

It is the secondary air injection pump. I'm actually going to disconnect mine and go get an Driveclean test done with it connected and disconnected and see if there is any difference at all. We do our tests with a hot engine so I suspect it won't make any difference, then I can remove it and make the engine significantly easier to work on and free up a load of space for under the hood accessories, something we really don't have now.

If in Canada, you can do that, and once you figure out how to keep your ECU happy, make sure you keep all the parts cause most likely you won't be able to resell the truck when you want to. I know in the States you can't remove the secondary air even if you can get bast the ECU.

Agreed, I wanted to nix mine but you can't legally do it. It is incredibly noisy and only gets worse w/ moisture and age. Once it shuts off my motor is nice a smooth, but at cold start-up my vacuum pumphas gotten loud and sounds like a damn shop-vac under the hood. But, fingers crossed, no codes and it works fine so no worries.

I've got a Rovacom SV coming this week, if anything can make the ECU happy it should be able to. I'll need to make sure they don't 'check' for the SAI stuff based on VIN or something, if they don't then removing it and swapping in performance heads without ports will fix the problem
