Default Why can I only run snow tires in the winter?

I have 19 inch Range Rover wheels that a previous owner put on and it is slim pickings finding tires for a 19 inch wheel.

Looks like the Bridge stone blizzacks have great snow rating which I want, but I was curious what will happen if I run them all season.

I may go ahead and dedicate this wheel set to the winter and then buy some 18" wheels with A/T s for the summer.

Most people will tell you that cause, true snow tires, will not last long on year around use.
Not sure if they are available in your size but read up on the Good Year Dura Trac tires, what a great 4 season tire and to die for on snow and ice.

JUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want something that will handle all the snow and ice you can throw at it, this is the way to go, then of course it will give you great performance the rest of the year.

You can run a snow tire all season, they wear out faster though.

Snow tires are made from softer rubber and the softer rubber will not hold up to the heat of summer driving.
Thus they will wear out in short order.

You can run snow tires all year, as long as they're not studded. There's usually laws stating when studded tires can be run. But i don't believe any blizzaks are studdable, so whatever.

If by snow tire, you mean studded tire.. then it's because the studs will dig into the asphalt.. and a metal head might cause it to grind and pop the wheel.

I always thought that winter tires would wear out very quickly when used year round but in my experience they seem to hold up well. I've have Hercules avalanche x-tremes on my Disco for the last few years and 20k miles and they wear very evenly and have tons of tread left (too much because I want to swap them for Duratracs). I think it's worth trying if that's what you want. I'd bet that the Blizzacks have one of the softest rubber compounds though so you may want to find out more about them for year round use.
