Why are LR Discos being sold twice what fair market value says?
Oh man, some good ones in there me thinks.
Edit: This one looks like a great buy just from the ad..

I have plenty of those types of things, usually cosmetic on my cars. I've been planning on replacing the front drivers seat with a new one sitting in my shop for about 2 years, same with removing and replacing the fender flares. If I was to sell the car today, I'd advertise it with the rocking drivers seat and faded flares that I haven't got to yet.
prices probably are people confusing the discovery 2 with the discovery 1.
not a troll opinion: buy a discovery 1. they share drivetrains with defender and range rover, less prone to mechanical issues, electrical issues, better propshaft/axle design, cheaper to operate and maintain.

I’ve owned RRC/D1/D2’s and I would never call the RRC/D1 more reliable. Slightly simpler to work on yes, but more reliable nope.. They have their own share of issues.
The ABS/HDC/TC on a D2 was dealer fix & $$$$, but that just is not the case today. Option B, and new sensors will take care of it 90% of the time. Same transfer case, same engine block, and the HP22/HP24 transmissions are very robust.
D2’s should go up. There aren’t that many beautiful ones out there today. It’s still got LR’s original great body style with a lot of improvements. RRC/D1’s are going up & yes D2’s will also go up.

I refer to:
>headgaskets
>liners (slipped)
>the amazing unserviceable drive shafts
>has an LT230 but you need to DIY a linkage in? (admittedly on only some models)
>excusive lug/hub pattern, IE the standard LR wheels from every car but the P38 don't fit on D2
To be fair, Discovery 2 has a great look, better space, better seats, better interior, better handling, nicer I suppose to live with.

You can have HG issues with any buick 215 based LR V8 be it a 3.5, 3.9, 4.0, 4.2, or 4.6L. Been there done that same with liners. Overheat any of em bad enough and adios. The tooling was better back in the day, but that won’t stop some idiot from overheating the engine & causing all kinds of damage. Drive shafts are also a thing of the past, anyone that wants to keep a LR D2 on the road will ditch the OEM front drive shaft for one with zerk fittings or rebuild the OEM unit (can be done for under 150.00 either way). CDL linkage is up to the owner & if the D2 has the nipple. D2’s TC/HDC does work well, and yes slap on an 04 CDL linkage and SLABS unit and it’s even better. For some people CDL is just not a requirement. Wheel wise there are a lot of 5x120 rims out there. Just depends on what you want from steel, alloy, or bling bling DUB stuff. RRC/D1/D90/110/130 lug pattern is the tough one.
The brake job on a D2 is a 1hr job tops vs a RRC/D1, transmission filter swap is much faster without that massive cross member in the way vs a D2, swivel ball adjustments = don’t exsist on a D2, and don’t even get me started on the inside/outside door handle adjustments on the RRC/D1 that are so picky as they wear and need TLC to open/close properly.
The RRC/D1 has a more elegant body style vs the D2’s big old booty, but thats about it.
