So if I have read everything correctly Synthetic oils use in my 2003 Disco2 only real negative is it could cause more oil leaks but most of the time this will stop after about 3 changes when seals expand with new oil.

As for dealer they are probably worried I will complain about leaks.

I am right there with you. People talk about sludge and poor oil flow. Heavier oil just flows slower. I have rung 5W 30 and 10 W since the day I bought it. I ran 10 W 40 once and developed a tick. Drained it immediately and have been fine with 10W 30 ever since. Bought with 98K and I am now at 193K. No ticks or knocks with 26PSI oil pressure hot @idle

I can say the same thing just the opposite though. I used 5w30 for a few years and just assumed the valve train noise was normal. Switched to a synthetic HDEO 5w40 and the difference was very noticeable. For those 30wt diehards, Rotella now makes the semi synthetic T5 10w30 available at your local walmart.

I am really going to **** people off when I say this...this last oil change I used Shell Rotella HD-30 and my truck has never been happier.
She is quiet, does not leak, oil light shuts off before my SRS light and best of all, its cheap.

I think with oil we are splitting hairs. Change your oil every 3000 miles with any modern oil and (assuming no mechanical issues or leaks) our engines will last 300,000 miles. Arguing is fun though. Also HD30 is a good oil.

I have said it before and I will say it again, talking about motor oil is like talking about women, we all like something different.

FWIW, my '95 Oldsmobile that I bought brand new I used Castrol HD-30 from its very first oil change until I sold it with 120k on it exclusively and it never once used any oil or had a hard time starting in the cold or any problems when hot, nothing, no problems what so ever from oil, just the rest of the car was a huge POS and I will never buy another American car ever again, ever.

I am with Spike on this one: I too have owned my last domestic automobile. When the Europeans start producing full size pick-ups (IF) I will be in the market. Until then I will run rotella through my Disco and change it frequently because of trailering.
