Default Why the worse gas mileage than p38 or DI

Its really nO big deal but I usually got 15-17 in my d1 and you can say its the engine since I now have a 4.6. But my p38 with 4.6 had the best gas mileage. Usually 16-18 it was geared higher.

Just wondering why so bad?

So bad compared to what, nearly all 4X4's get the same mileage.
I get 14 in town and 18 on the road at 6000 feet.

Really?? It's in the title...

D1 and p38...

I'm getting nithcably worse gas mileage. I always heard about d2 owners having this gas mileage, I figured it was just the driver.. Even on highway going 65 I'm getting 15mpg

I would guess a combo of weight and bad aerodynamic properties?

I get 12-16. It sucks... literally.

True and p38 was more aero and geared higher.. But it's nearly identical to a d1. Just something I wanted to talk about. Any guesses?

That year P38 and DI's both have GEMS engine management systems, DII's have a Bosch management system. Seems to me that the "cleaner" they make engines the worse the fuel mileage gets. I have no hard data but it sure seemed that way on the succession of Ford pickups I've had over the years, the engines got smaller, the engine management got newer and the mileage got worse (I don't have an Ecoboost, I stopped liking the Ford styling about 2003 and haven't had one since I got rid of mine in 2010)

Gears and weight along with the bosch system. You could change your gears it would bring it up bit.
