Why you bought your DII

My ex bought it new in 04, just after we'd broken up. She used to stop by my place for "consultation" and I always like the way it looked sitting out in the driveway. As you can possibly see in my avatar, black on black with a Wilderness rack and looking quite boss. Always well maintained and dealer serviced, I noticed it stopped being driven a little over a year ago and sat in her driveway. Then I noticed it parked out near the fence next to a derelict car for a few months. One day it was out at the street with a sign in the window, $1000. I thought, WTH, $1000??? Surely the truck is worth $1000. I stopped and spoke to her husband, who I've known for years, and he said it runs great, everything except the AC works perfectly, and it needed brakes all around. The major issue was frame rot. He added that he'd gotten about 30 phone calls about it and had yet to call anyone back so was thrilled that I was interested. I drove it home two days later. I'm in the process of sorting it out and returning it to turnkey, whereupon I'll attempt to remediate the frame issues over the coming year. If that proves too much, I'll part it next spring.

I originally bought my 97 D1 because I was fed up with my Nissan Xrerra 4x4 and I loved my mom’s 89 RRC. Sadly I only had the 97 D1 for 6 months before it gave it’s life to save mine. Then I had a 97 RR 4.6L HSE Vitesse in AA Yellow. When the D2 came out I liked all the unique limited editions from the LE, Kalahari, and Westminster. My first D2 was a Java Black 03 SE, then I grabbed a silver SE7. Sitting up high is awesome, the dual air was nice, unique looking, handled great, and just a great solid axle 4x4. I went to Jeeps and even a few Hummers after my LR’s but I came back and have zero regrets!
I have 5 D2’s and an LR3 now.

When I bought mine new in 2003 it was a snip, circa £11K (circa $15K) below book price and they fitted all new rubber mats and a tow hitch plus wiring. I had some long distance serious heavy towing to do and it's reputation as a tow truck was formidable. It's been near perfect with nearly 150K miles on the odometer and less than £2000 spent on it over that time including all services. Magic!
If my LR4 lasts that well with minimal cost it'll see me to my box.

I find the Land Rover Discovery II series an exceptional car. Mine is a 2001 SE.
I only drive to and from the transit center, about 2 miles one way each day. However, I have a 22" chainsaw in the back and a sticker that indicates I am part of the Bigfoot Research Team LOL
I used to drive a Sorrento, nice, clean but without character, traded it in so my wife is now driving a Kia Soul 2018 priced at 32000. it does everything except for autonomous driving. it does talk back at you and has Swarovski crystals around the start button LOL
but driving ma Land Rover makes my day, every day!

I sold my 1992 Nissan Pathfinder to my nephew and I really wanted to replace it with a 96-97 Toyota Land Cruiser with lockers, but the only ones I found they wanted $10k+ for and they had 200k miles on them. I scored my Disco for $5,800 and it only had 58k on it. After driving the Disco for 6 years, I'd still rather have the Toyota Land Cruiser.

I watched Camel Trophy back in the day and thought "wow those things are amazing". Later I met a man with a Series IIA and loved it. I dreamed and searched but kind of decided not to get one until my 1998 Ford Exploder hit 302,000 and I felt it could go at any time. So I started the search and found a 2003 SE7 that seemed good halfway across the country and decided to buy. It drove home beautifully, even with the multiple lights on that the PO said were not on when asked over the phone. I have repaired most everything and realized that I must be at least a little masochistic.

I was brought home in a 1993 RRC
We took family road trips in our 99' Discovery II
My first vehicle was my father's 99' Disco II
I bought my girlfriend an L322 to keep her safe
Our 3 Australian Shepherds were brought home in my RRC
Most of my friends have been found through Land Rover events offroading my stock Disco
Some of my existing friends bought Land Rovers after driving mine
Every car since my first has been a Land Rover product, not just Discoveries.
I've had 3 Discovery IIs of my own, neglecting to count my first car, which was my father's. Since that, 2 RRCs, 3 L322s, and soon a Disco5.
