Why you picked Disco over Defender
just what lipad said. Since you're referring to a Defender even as a possible purchase I'm assuming you're not from the states, but here it's almost impossible to get a Defender. Man I wish I could though.
Because there were only 1500 or so Defenders sold in the entire US and they start at $35,000 for a used one and that is not even in that good of shape.
You can buy a used LR3 (Discovery 3) here in the US for less than that.
I paid $4500 for my DI 2.5 years ago.

I like a little comfort and luxury. The Disco offers that. The Defenders I've seen are pretty much no frills, bare bones basic on the interior.
... then there is also the price and availability that the other guys have mentioned above.

Here's something I thought about doing: 8,900 euro= 13,127.50 USD. '85 model year or older EPA and DOT exempt(direct importable), and last I looked into it, about $4-5K to ship and clear customs. So for less than $20k, you could have a clean, older 110. Just good luck in finding anyone that would give an auto loan to do just such.

Sure people do it all the time the problem is that there is a glut of beat old defenders over in England/europe and in order to get a good one you either have to pay a premium and go with an importer on this end (to take the risk) , fly over and pick out your truck or take your chances with someone's description.
