For years I've noticed my, relatively new, headliner showing evidence of water leakage above the A-pillar/front windshield gasket. I finally took some time to take a closer look and I found a gap between the windshield gasket/trim and roof "gutter" that seems to channel the water along the side of the windshield to who knows where. I know I had issues in the past with passenger-side footwell/carpet wetness due to blocked drains. Are these two issues related? Should I have that gap that water pours down, like a roof downspout, next to my windshield, or should I seal it up?
Can you post photos? If the windshield was ever replaced, the shop might’ve installed a generic upper windshield weatherstrip rather than the LR one that has a little “kick out” that diverts water down the windshield instead of behind the a-pillar trim.
Thanks. It still leaks at the headliner and that has to be the source. Now I finally see some relayed threads that might shed some additional light on the topic. I’ll check those out.
There's a known recall/service bulletin for those. Quite a lot of the rubber needs to be pulled away in order to get to the problem areas.
Note that you can also get leaks via the roof rails too.
Thanks to all who replied. I was able to find the service bulletin .pdf in an old thread (that for some reason didn't show up in my original search for this topic) and I'll get to work on that fix in the next few weeks.
