Hi everybody,
I have been having problems with my front right passenger window motor. It has gone through 3 motors but they keep failing. I purchased the car with it not working and fixed it. 2 months later it failed. I replaced it again, and now after sitting without use since I am at college, it does not work again. Is there some kind of design flaw? Or is there something other than the motor at fault here?

Can be mechanical binding of the last gear teeth jammed; or electrical failure by circuit breaker opening because stays energized after reaches the end of travel.
You must diagnose which of the two. Briefly power the motor/gear assembly connector with wires directly from battery forward and reverse to discern.

 

When you say "fail"... do you hear the motor cranking away, but the window is stuck in the bottom? Or were the motors completely dead?

 

The biggest flaw from the factory was the lack of lubrication and the fragile rollers in the tracks. The thermal circuit breakers can be weakened over time if the drag is too much on the motor, did you replace previously with new or used? Although relatively rare the motors can wear out the brushes.

 

I have had trouble with switches on a different car brand, and had to replace them. Just a thought. With our switches in the center, away from rainwater, it's less likely, but like I said, just a thought.

 

The motors were completely dead, I heard the clicking noise of the switch, but there was no sound from the motor.

 

hey i think i saw u on tiktok? are you @03_discovery? also regarding your issue could it be a window seal leaking onto the motor shorting it out?

 

I've seen the aftermarket units get water in them and fail. The grommet for the electrical connection = poorly made/sealed and if you don't add any RTV/Silicone to that spot the motor can fail in a short time depending on the climate or how many times you wash your car. I've only seen this on the aftermarket window motors. Seal it up good with RTV/Silicone before install and it should last much much longer.

 

Yes, I am 03_discovery ahaha. You might me right about that window seal. I will check when I get back from college for break.

 

oh damn cool also when u take out the motor maybe check the gearbox cuz i have 3 window regulators that "work" but the plastic gear inside is shattered so no force is transferred to the window
