Window Switch modification
The other day I created my first useful modification to my D2 (which would work in a D1 as well). I was reading about the CDL installation, and one of the instructions was to remove the console panel with the window switches.
It seems that any time I have a passenger in my car, and they want to roll down the windows, they choose the wrong window - rolling down the back instead of the front. This has bothered me too (as a UI designer) - even though the switch position "maps" to the car (bottom switches = front, top switches = rear) instinct has us click the closest switch first.
In any case:
-remove the cover from the switch panel (it just pops off)
-remove the switch panel (4 phillips screws, don't drop them down the hole)
-Unplug the top and bottom switch wires on one side; they're different colors and have a latch on the side.
-Remove the two switches themselves - they have latches top and bottom. (I assume they're different, maybe this step isn't even necessary)
-Reverse the switches.
-Reverse the wires.
-Repeat on the other side
-put it all back together.
-Windows now work as they "should".
I did this while waiting in line at McDonalds, with a multitool in one hand and an XL Diet Coke in the other.
