Default Windshield wiper upgrade

Driving up to Seattle from the SF Bay Area this weekend and needed new wipers. Figured I’d try something new.

Rain X Truck and SUV wiper blades. Fancy, expensive… They work well and look the part. We'll see how they do up north.

Not too much fiddling to get them on.

Got rid of all the attachment parts, had to cut some tabs off, and drill a hole out a little (.234" drill) to get an M6-1.00 X 25 bolt through the wiper. Used a stainless nylock nut. I also made some little washers out of an M6 Helicoil to try to make up for the difference between the hole in the wiper arm and the M6 bolt.

IMO way too much work - stick with the originals

Or switch to D1 arms and use any wiper blades at all.

As a Seattle area D2 owner. I've found D1 arms and basic blades work the best.

100% the same. They were so loud and chattery. Way better results with D2 wipers.

Very little spring pull in to the WS. If you blades have much arch to them (like a Bosch Icon - my favorite winter blade), the springs aren't strong enough to pull them flat.

D1 arms and Bosch ICON wipers. Initially, the D1 arms failed to impress years ago. They would pull away from the windshield on highway. They would chatter. They also would struggle in the winter with a little bit of ice/snow on the windshield. What solved these issues was SURE WIPE tension springs. I believe the company is no longer but plenty of impersonators on Amazon. Also, hitting the windshield with SIL-Bead (also no longer) or RAIN-X is a must.

I thought the ICONS were pricey but those RAIN-X Truck and SUV have taken the throne.

i've been thinking about replacing the springs on my D1 arms. glad to know there are options.
