Default Winter wiper blades -OEM or Silblade?

Disco MIke recently sang the praises of the Silblade as a wiper replacement for LR Discovery.
I am contemplating putting new winter blades on my 2000 Discovery II. The LR Dealership in Ottawa has LR winter blades at $ 89.00 CDN but says his customers tell him they are noisy.

I spoke with the Silblade rep for a dealer in Canada (he recommends AB, they are the closest dealer to me) for the winter blade. He said they do not make a winter blade for the LR Discovery II yet but said the regular Silblade is sufficient for winter use (he lives in upper New York state).

Anyone had experience with the Silblade in winter or the OEM winter blade (is it noisy?)

Cheers

Derek

I went thru 2 sets of noisey OEM blade sets and switched to the Sil Blades. How they will do in snow conditiond, I am not sure yet but having moved to Colo. I will find out soon enough.
http://www.expeditionexchange.com/ is a good place to buy them from, he can ship them to you.

I use silblades all summer and really like the performance. I live in New England with lots of snow, and find the Silblades don't work well in our winters. They get clogged up with snow and ice quickly. I need to use my bare hands to pull (melt) the ice mornings it snows. SO for teh winter, I deal with the regular winter (non-Silbale) blades.

good luck

I bought the silblades from EE like Mike did. They are on my disco. i have the Bosch Icon's on my DD. The Bosch Icon's are quieter than the Silblades but i have not had either thru the New England winter yet so im looking forward to that.

I finally wore out my Sill Blades and made the leap to a new set of D1 arms and installed Bosch's top of the line blades. This was a huge step up for a couple of reasons, the D1 arms have more down force because of the 2 springs they use and the design of all these new wipers blades is so far advanced over new Rover blades or the Sill Blades.
Cost, is about $17 an arm, new, and $20 per blade and her in Colorado I have been very pleased with them.

yeah i did the same thing. I have D1 arms with the Silblades and they are too loud. thinking of going with the Bosch Icon's in the spring for the rover. Although some people will argue on here that for the price of the Bosch Icon's you can get 10+ pairs of cheap rubber blades and replace em every few months...

Yeh, if you are into cheap rubber strips instead of quality wipers that can handle dam near anything.

I don't have any experience with the Sill Blades but I replaced the OEM blades on my mustang a few months ago with the Bosch Icon blades (ironic since I try not to drive the car in the rain - even more ironic since I drive the rover instead.. and its' roof leaks haha)

Anyways in addition to looking MUCH better (more of an issue on the mustang which has a really low stance and raked-out windshield) they perform amazingly well. I have zero experience with them in the winter, but I'm going to buy a set for the disco today which reminds me..

Advance autoparts has a sale for the rest of the week on the Bosch Icon and Rain-X Latitude wiper blades, buy one get one 50% off. It's not a huge sale but I mean.. you'll save ~$5-8 depending on the blade set.

Dido on the Bosch Icon's 422A and the DI wiper arms. I just did this upgrade. I moved to 22" Bosch wiper blades. and installed the DI wiper arms in one evening.
DI wiper blades on eBay $30 -- painted them flat black
Bosch Icon Buy one get 2nd 50% off at Advanced Auto right now.
Sold the old DII wiper arms to a dude in Canada for $59.
Spend about $7 total and some spray paint = Priceless.

P.S. You must trim the passenger wiper arm about 1/2" or it will touch the A-Pillar. Triming the wiper arm is not hard but tin snips work well once the plastic end is removed. They are smooth and quiet and cover the whole windshield.

Another option for D2 is the Trico 21-11or 21-1, I forgot which one, I tossed the package already. I just installed a set on my truck. Direct fit and works fine...for now.
