Default Wipers ice up

Hey Guys,

Not sure if this is a Disco problem or a general problem, but it is an issue for me. Whenever it snows (like today!) and I'm using my wipers, ice develops on the wiper blades, and they just smear across the windshield causing visibility problems. Other than stopping and knocking the ice off, I havent been able to stop this from happening. I have the defroster on full blast and my heated front windshield is engaged (doesnt work very well, need new windshield).

If it matters, I have switched from the original D2 to the D1 wiper arms.

Any thoughts or suggestions is appreciated!

I think its an issue endemic to D2's.
I still have my D2 wiper arms with factory blades (what can i say, as a mechanic, i get them at cost) and mine do the same thinh. i dont switch to winter blades though.

I had this very same conversation last night while driving home in a snow storm. I have D1 wiper arms and blades on the DII but have not switched over to winter blades. IIRC I had the same issue with the DII arms with winter blades. I asked my husband to turn the defroster up to high while I was stretching in my seat to see out the one area of windshield I could and he commented, 'it's a blade issue, not a windshield issue'. So who knows.. I'm going to go pick up a set of winter blades this weekend and see if it makes any difference.

Winter blades have a rubber boot over them to keep the mechanical springs from being coated with ice. They don't always keep the edge on the windshield from getting ice on them. I have coated my wiper blades with WD40 (not the rubber blade part) and it helps for a bit. Not a guaranteed fix, but it will work for a day or so...

Default First Vehicle?

but it is an issue for me.
Had to chuckle and think if this is coming from a 16 yo from Bama who'd recently moved north and driving first MV ever.

Condition of blades prior to snow? Wiper performance prior to this? Most don't replace often enough and worn or poor quality blades tend to wipe the moisture back/forth and collect on the moving parts causing icing.

Probably unrealistic to think blades won't ice up over a short period of time and may require occasional slowing down then stopping to clear ice off blade.

......

So, oh great one, how often do you change you wiper blades?

And also, this issues hasn't happened on any of the 7 Mercedes Benz vehicles that I have had the pleasure of owning.

that's just great blinker fluid only $18.95 I bet you would be surprise how much they sold. They also have an oil bypass kit, reads oil is $$$ why get it dirty running thru your engine, this kit bypassed the engine block completely keeping the oil clean

go to the detailing section and the very 1st post is about winter blade.

the linkage being cover in rubber does not allow the snow to get forced between the linkages taking the pressure off the blades
