Default Wipers won't "return to park"

Hi. My 1997 Discovery with 115,000 miles has a windshield wiper issue. They won't "return to park" when I shut them off or use them on intermittent. I was told that it is likely the wiper motor but others have said it is the wiper transmission. Can anyone shed any light on what this might be? Possibly both? Thank you.

pretty sure your motor has a park switch built into it.

I would guess you need a new motor. Give will Tillery or Paul Grant a call for a used one.

Hilltoppersx... I clicked on the link but the print is so small I can't read it. Is this a site "under development"? I'd love to find more information about anything "Land Roverish" in the northeast.

I apologize for bringing up an old thread but i'm having this same issue, my wipers won't return to the parked position making the intermittent setting useless. Has anybody been successful in fixing the "park switch" without replacing the entire wiper motor?

Unfortunately, like many things on a D2, the wipers are a very overly complex arrangement also hooked up to the gearbox reverse and synchronised with the rear wiper. I suspect there is a park switch within the motor and it might be worth investigating this and the connectors first before lashing out cash on a new motor just to find you still have the same problem. Check the circuit diagrams in the RAVE manual for possible issues or solutions and also check the web as it may be a common fault and fix on LR's.

I had a failure of the rear wiper and assumed it was the motor as it didn't always operate and sometimes never parked. It turned out to be electrical connections/faults, I assume, but I never found out exactly what after stripping and cleaning the whole motor and contacts. It's a mystery.

PS. Just Googled your wiper issue. It appears you are by no means unique, it seems there is a parking switch which is known to fail.

This is what i'm looking at (pg. 42.1) for reference: http://macassemble.com/lrm/discovery...%20Ciruits.pdf

The park switch is build into the motor. I'm not an electrical expert but I can't find anything else that would keep the park function from working. I bought a used motor on eBay for $25. I will see if the park function works with the new motor. If it does I can try to take apart my old one to see if its repairable.
