Default Wonder if a cop will stop me for this?

I stick lots of crap on my LR, mostly souvenirs from trips. Sometimes they are decals or stickers but I picked up this mock license plate in Istanbul last month and mounted it just under my state tag. I also have a plate from Australia on the bumper.

From what I could find in the Texas motor vehicle code you must have both front and back plates and no part of any plate can be covered by anything like a frame, lens or filter that effects reading the plate number, state, etc.

My wife says I will probably get hassled over this but I'm of the opinion this isn't any different from plates with college names or logos on it.

In Texas? Just make sure you have a gun on your person and you should be fine.

In all seriousness though, if your statement is true about the law, then you aren't covering the numbers at all so I can't see a reason why that would be an issue.

Pretty much what I thought but my wife says it looks too much like a real license plate. I figure if they say it is a distraction I'll point out all the other stuff on my car.

should be fine, but I have no idea of the legality of such. as long as your plate is lighted and not obscured...I see the hippie vw buses with like a 90% coverage with plates and stickers and such, a lot.

They are clearly not license plates, BUT...you might want to move Istanbul down there by Australia. Ynk, IMHO some bored cop might pull you, and with the tags touching like that it would make for a great pretense to stop you and check your dl, ins., etc., along with the obligatory "look around" while he/she is there.

No one will pull you over for that. Nothing is obstructing your legal plate.

(Correction: It's a state jail felony, you have to send the Australia plate to me :P )

It's possible. A buddy of mine got pulled over for having a front euro plate as well as a front NH plate. State laws vary quite a bit.

not to mention, cops are people and different people, at that. I once had to wait on a k9 unit to arrive and sniff out my truck (scout II/ nice looking, not a beater) , because I had a bulk pack of box blades on the dash (for work) I was pulled over because "I looked suspicious" frisco texas
very thankful that they are all not like that.

I can see your wifes point of view, and yours. If it was my vehicle, I think I'd move the plate down to the bumper. No chance of confusion.

I'd say your gonna get pulled over within a month. You'll find one cop that finds it distracting.
