Would you buy a low mileage '04 Discovery with a manufacturer buyback/lemon title?
There's an 04 SE7 (7 seater) that just went up on craigslist in Richmond, Indiana. 104K miles, all original reciepts + service records, no blemishes, non smoker. All for 5K obo
You could likely get that for $3,750 and be golden
Should be an easy choice now lol
PS - it has a clear title hahaha

Grumblefish, do you desperately need this particular truck, you know what the risks are, maybe just look around some more first. Buying a used vehicle is always risky whatever the history and however knowledgeable you are but buying a used D2 is even more risky than most vehicles unless you know the exact history. LR repairs aren't cheap nor are the parts to repair it yourself.
No, we certainly don't "need" it right now. We are going to go back this evening and take another, more in depth, look. We've taken a few knocks on used cars before, so we are certainly aware of that possibility. We're willing to do a good bit of wrenching ourselves, and have the luxury of three other vehicles, so if we do have down time researching a problem or waiting for parts, it won't be a big deal.
Our neighbors are used to seeing 4 cars in our driveway as it is- at least this will be prettier to look at than what it is replacing.

If it's a toy, screw it- pending full analysis of course- I'd go for it. Now obviously, the Lemon Law bit is a good negotiating tool- regardless of facts of Disco ownership.
From what I have learned, and now and doing, the Disco is a purchase of passion, not financial sense. You will lose money if it's on a perfect example or a salvage. They are supremely cool and if you are OK, with it, rock and roll.
Something that I think everyone is missing on this as it relates to the Lemon Law (and it does differ state to state) is that the Lemon Law was instituted for a single issue taking multiple attempts to resolve.
So if the engine was replaced, that in and of itself I do not believe will allow a purchaser to go through the process. If it was replaced 3 times, then yes. From your research it sounded like the repairs were cooling system related (not surprising) and a dealer couldn't get it right and the owner got fed up eventually. But as mentioned, I don't see how a Lemon Law vehicle could still be in circulation, but I don't know the specifics of the laws in individual states.

it's still on there. It's listed in Lexington but the owner has marked it in Richmond.
Just change your search to Lexington and you'll find it. I think I've seen this one up before. It's super clean

My D2 is salvage and it doesn't bother me one bit. My truck has 115K miles on it. Was in a hurricane (flood salvage), had a new motor at 70K miles. I currently have zero issues with any electronics, no dash lights, no leaks, nothing.
I work for Honda, so I have horrible options with their vehicles for potential Ohio inclement weather. So I have to have something that performs decently well in snow and ice, this LR suits the ticket. I cannot justify buying a pickup truck as I wouldn't get enough use out of it to cover the cost of investment. Ex: 12-15 year old diesel truck 3/4 ton with 200K miles still cost 15K+ (asinine to me)
my .02 lol
