I've only bought the Rotella T6 5w40 since I live in VT and it's cold up here, ran it all summer with no issues, granted I don't have ticking that some people have (I'm also hard of hearing so that doesn't mean it's not there).
P.S. I do have 2 jugs of 15w40 if anyone in the VT area wants to buy them! I was going to try them out but got a job close to home so didn't put the mileage on to try it before it got cold again.

I live in Hamilton, Ontario Canada and I use LiQUI MOLY 0w40 Full Synthetic with 2 jugs of Lucas Synthetic Oil Stablizer and I have No tics, great Oil Pressure and Awesome Cold Weather start up and I change my oil every 7000kms with the oil still looking kinda clean. And for the Oil and Lucas Additive and OIl Filter it only cost me Around $65 and I know its a great oil.

What I noticed about my Discovery 1 with the old 4.0 V8 that has about 120 thousand miles is that whatever oil I put in there it turns black quickly, like in 1500 to 2000 miles. In my other newer V8 with 150 thousand, oil is still light brown at that age, same as in the Japanese V6 with 80 thou. I go about 5000 miles between changes on the newer motors. I change the oil in the Discovery more often. Either way, it amounts to about once a year oil changes for all of them.
I should probably do a compression test on the Discovery but I don't think it has a single leaky cylinder. And headgaskets were done about 7k ago. I think all the rings are just generally looser than the other motors. I think compression is good, but leak-down would probably show that there is more blow-by over time.
I also think the oil fouls from the detergents removing some of the built up sludge and varnish that accumulated possibly because of neglect of oil changes by previous owners. I've looked inside and sludge is minor but this motor is much more varnished than my other engines.
I like and use Mobil 1 because it's a quality oil at a low price. There's some other good oils like Kendall or Lubro Moly that I just can't get at such a good price because for one, Walmart doesn't carry them. Around here, Walmart is about 20% cheaper than any auto store.
I like Mobil, Kendall, Lubro Moly, and Honda-brand.
I have experience with Pennzoil, Castrol, and Chevron which I would say I don't care for them, but I can't point to them and say they fall short of SAE or anything.
I've used Rotella before and I might use that for an automotive diesel.

In my experiance older vehicle's oil turns black fast partly because If u were to take down the oil pan u will see alot of black crud build up at the bottom right below the oil pick up and I mean alot so no matter how often u change ur oil it will get black fast. So i suggest for an older vehicle as I did is dropped the oil pan clean it right out and replace oil pick up cause it is most likely half clogged with that crud which may also affect your oil pressure, so do that and ur oil will have a winning chance.

I've switched from Rotella 15w-40 to Mobil 1 delvac 15w-40, with the enxtended mobil 1 filter. No problems at all and Ive noticed that this oil tends to stay a little cleaner but there are some variables to that. I did 4 oil changes in a span of 2 days some months ago so I think that might have helped clean her a bit.
I'm a little afraid to run any 30 weight oil in these. It doesn't usually get too cold around here so I can get away with 15-40 all year.
