I wish I had really looked into this question before I bought my 2002 Disco. Love it in many ways, but if you have or ever will have any interest in a CDL, 2001-2003 (or at least portions of those years)are not the way to go. Looking back, had I known better I would have held out for a 2004.

Seconded. I love mine and have used the center diff lock a few times now. It made a big difference.

For some reason, putting all off-road essentials aside, Consumer Reports says 2002 is the best year (or least worst) for reliability and resale. not sure why.

SpeedAgent, that's part of what drew me to the 2002 when I bought it. I was looking at the factors that you'd look at when buying any used car (reliability, resale, etc.). Hopefully that's true. But I wish I had spent more time on this forum and others like it to really understand Discoveries and learn from the people who know and love them...

But you can add a CDL to the "earlier" ones for less than the difference in buying an 04 truck versus a 01,02 etc. So its not all bad

04 is a good year, it has the diff lock, and the nice headlights. however you can easily add diff lock to a 99-02, not 03. and with earlier years you can also get Active Cornering Enhancement, which is a very nice option, itll drive like a car through turns on the road. dont get a 03. 04 still has the same trans, but an extra 45 hp over the earlier models. its a toss up really, the actual truck is always very much the same.
