Default Yet Another U-Joint Question

Ok, so I had my u-joints replaced Firday with greasables, the front, and the two at the double cardon. Seemed to be running nice and tight around town, but after running down the highway about 50 miles, I stopped at an intersection. When I hit the gas and gained a little speed, horrible vibration from below. Shut her down immediately and called for a tow. Centering ball maybe? Thanks in advance for any input.

They screwed something up, centering ball which should have been replaced at the same time. Or they didnt tighten something.
Def have it towed back to them.

Oh it went right back to them, but it was late and I havn't gotten any info back yet. Just out of curiosity, if the only problem you are detecting is some worn bearing noise coming out of the joints and no real vibration, how is it that the centering ball HAS to be replaced with them? I don't mind having it done, and it seems to be mandatory, but what is the real rteason for it?

Well because I know nothing I would have to guess that it needs to be replaced with the u-joints because they all wear at the same rate.
The centering ball is in between the two u-joints, if the joints are worn then I would asssume that so is the centering ball.
And as long as iot is apart why not spend the extra few minutes and do it right the first time, ya know?
Nothing against you, just the shop. I think that should have know better.

Yeah, I immediately thought of that when the problem occured. It was the first time I had used this shop. Should have gone to my regular guy. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for the input.

Oh man, after the tow truck came, we had our daughter come pick us up and we went on up to the football game we were trying to get to in the first place. We're up for state champs.........woooohoooo. We romped the opposition, but the exploding tranny scenario kept running through my mind, even though it didn't happen.

Yeah, we play Austin Westlake in the Alamodome on Saturday. Ohhh, you mran the Rover. Just went by the shop. They are replacing the centering ball. When I asked on of the mechanics about the centering ball, he said, "Oh yeah, it's mandatory to change it when the u-joints are replaced". So no argument about any extra charges.

Sorry, this is a little off topic, but I had to chime in when I read this last post...

Discobob...Westlake is my alma mater; class of '89; GO CHAPS...good luck!

Personally I think Lake Travis is a better team this year in the "Silicon Hills" even though they are 4A...QB Garrett Gilbert committed to the Longhorns...GO HORNS BY THE WAY!

I'm stuck here in the Northwest (Washington) for my job and miss Texas Friday night football...Just not the same up here.

Even though we may be for opposite teams on the turf, at least we are on the same "Rover Team"!!!!!!!
