Yipee, bought a non running rover- now what
OK, so I picked up an 01 disco II with a newly rebuilt engine. The car has been sitting in storage for a couple years and am told the catylitic converter is clogged and mass airflow sensor is all that needs replacing.
Is there a way to by pass all that stuff and can a catylitic covnverter even get clogged and keep the engine from running?
Advice please. I am buying a battery and will be trying to get it running over the course of the week.
Thanks Gurus...

You can unplug the MAF and the engine will run with default values, you should however replace it if it is faulty. Cats can get clogged, there's no bypass without breaking some laws. You can get aftermarket cats welded in at a reasonable price. Or search local yards and CL for a parting out disco.

Maintenance is just like any other car, its new to you so change all the fluids and filters and go from there.
It requires premium gas.
I would pour in 2 cans of Seafoam into the gas tank and then as much fresh gas as you can to mix it up.
Yes if the exhaust is plugged it will only run for a short time before the back pressure gets to much and kills the engine.

If you need to test the catalytic converters then you can disconnect the y pipe and let some of the pressure out, at least you can rule them out without any money. If the MAF is not connected then it will run a little rough as well but should run. Look for things like a blown fuse or something else as to why it wont run or turn over. You need three things for it to run; fuel, air and spark. If you have all those then you are off to a great start.
