2016 rear hatch problem

2016 rear hatch problem
My wife recently bought a used 2016 Discovery Sport. If you press the hatch button on the key fob or on the hatch itself, the hatch will close but immediately become ajar, but if you press the hatch button on the left side dash it will close and stay closed everytime. What could be the issue here? Thanks
