You could, but depending on the dimensions it may conflict with accessories.
Looks good. How easy is it to finagle the vortec in there?

It's not too bad. It's just a little bit bigger than the Rover V8. I'm getting pretty good at it now that I have some experience.

I have a 99 disco 2 and was wondering if the original trans is strong enough to avoid swapping over to a trans from a 03-04? I live in Denver so the altitude will knock off a bit of power from the LS that I'm hoping will keep me in the range of the original trans.

FYI: I have no brakes (they need to be bled). I have no power steering (not hooked up). I'm using the parking brake so i don't roll backwards. I don't have the harness tied in completely.

We are testing this out currently with a 5.3L LM7 and a 1999 Discovery 2 with a ZF 4HP22, but I would think it would be alright as long as its not pushed too hard. I'll keep everyone posted.

4HP22 was used in the Turbocharged 745i (M106 engine, 248hp) and South African 745i (M88/3, 286hp).

Speaking of 4HP24, I wonder if an M70 engine fits into a D2.

It would be tight. I wouldn't really see the point considering the M70 is a fairly rare engine that has few advantages to the LS. Same with the 350 small block - they're outdated now.

I'd rather stick a RB30 in there
