Default Handbrake issue with LT98 engine / trans swap

Hello I have swapped in a LT98 engine (Chevrolet Corvette 1986) with a matching Chevrolet transmission 700r4 (4L60) and a Chevrolet 4wd transfer case.

Problem is now that the old handbrake-drum does not fit anymore.

I guess all of you that swapped in LS or similar engine might have experienced the same challenge.

How did you solve it?

I thought of a conversion to a disc-handbrake conversion Kit offered from X ENG

see here:
https://maltings4x4store.co.uk/products/x-eng-discovery-1-and-2-handbrake-disc-brake-conversion.html?srsltid=AfmBOoon5K8VtZiFC8y8WQI3Ao 03nUmdik-O_-sUdrUweMTOyQyUQKTx

disc handbrake conversion

Also an electronic parking brake could be a solution
but I havn‘t found any already converted example.

Any advice is appretiated.

Seems to me that your problem is not one that some Disco kit can possibly solve. By changing your transfer case you have removed the facility to mount our type of ebrake. What xfer case is it? What output shaft/driveshaft flange do you have? I would think you need to look for a GM focused solution since that is what you are working with. Nothing about what you have there is Disco anymore.

Thank you for that reply, yes I come back with Info about what transfer case / output shaft is under the car as soon as the mechanics are back from new-years-vacation …

In the meantime I will try to search the forum if it is possible to convert my RRCs rearbrake somehow to Disco 3 rearbrake (even if needs strong customisation) … I think the Disco 3 rearbrake was WITH an electronic parking brake (EPB) which would solve my problem.

Transfer case is an NP208 (passenger drop)

My actual ideas are now:

First choice:
Customize an adapter for the 4L60 transmission
so that I can mount a Land Rover transfer case (a Borg Warner or LT230)
and then mount the original handbrake drum to it.

Second choice:
Customize an adapter for the 4L60
so that I can mount a Chevy NP205 or LT230 transfer case
and mount a disc hand brake on that (X-eng …)

The OEM handbrake drum would cause no trouble with homologation/street legaliztion
while the disc brake solution on the propeller shaft could be difficult to get accepted/street-legalized in my country (because there is no compliance-certificate that it fullfills all legal aspects).

Or third choice:
Replace the 4L60 with a 4L80.
For that transmission there are several adapters on the market to connect to a LT230

Actually I would like to go with the stock Borg Warner transfer case because this TC is chain-driven and has no winding gears like the LT230.
I guess it is more quiet.

We will see how it continues…
