Side note... The reason that the truck has only been out few times is the drivers fault not the truck. I have been battling cancer since February and have been unable to ride. I have beat it I think, but still taking some chemo. I hope to be well enough to ride by December or January.
Hope you are recovering well. I'm not far from you. Haven't done a motor swap but I do have the Rover V8 running seemingly-well at the moment (though my gas mileage is crap).
I'd love to see some of the public places that you are casually 4x4'ing.

I really, really want to meet up at Hawk Pride, but my daughter has a volleyball tournament then.
I'm in the process of doing ls swap with 6l80e and np241 right hand drop. I'm also putting a isuzu rodeo rear end in. It is a Dana 44 but a little beefier. I ended up doing a 2.5" body lift to make room for the ls.
I'm just getting to this thread years later, and doing the same swap in my Disco 1 which has a transmission clutch by wire that is not electronically managed by the ECU. Is it still feasible to swap with a 4l80e and a 6.2L LS3? I am going with an E-Rod kit from GM to do this swap, and am building an 'adventure vehicle' of sorts that I am aiming to put 400k on the odometer on.

You will need an aftermarket controller like compushift.
