It's awful and I can't get rid of it. Safari says the link to the normal version isn't valid. WTF??????

 

You probably already resolved your issue with the mobile phone app, but I thought I'd share how I resolved the issue on my iPhone 4. After you've selected the option to visit the mobile version, just go to your Safari settings and clear everything (data, cookies and history) then when you revisit the forum you'll be promote to chose the mobile version of the normal version.
