I've had the same problem this morning driving into work.
I was driving along, about 30MPH, suddenly the HDC light on thedash comes on.
I pulled off the road a few seconds later, HDC light still on (not flashing)
Turned off the ignition, waited about 1 min, re-started the car, no HDC light.
Set off again, all seemed fine, but a few minutes later, HDC light comes on again.
When I pull off the road again, and dip the clutch, the engine starts racing away -
7k / 8k revs (obviously without foot on the accelerator)

I have a 2002 Freelander 1.8 Serengetti Station wagon. Petrol / Manual

Any ideas please ?

Thanks

The only true way to know what is causing the trio of lights to come on is to go have the codes read. Have you recently had any brake work done, are you running aftermarket pads, are your brakes squeaking or dusty???

Hi Disco Mike,

Thanks for your response. No, I've not had any brake work done in the last 12 months. The front pads are 50% worn,
they are not dusty or squeaking. I also tried engaging HDC as normal and now there is no HDC light appearing on the
dash. I have a friend who has a code reader - I will get him to see if any fault codes exist in the system.

Will report back when I have any more info.

Many thanks,

zinzin

Dear all,
I'm new here; all because my 2003 TD4 Freelander's HDC and TC warning lights were on for about a week.
I decided to road test it this evening at 11:00 (on hols so late nights ok ha ha) and realised I had no HDC (tested by engaging HDC in first up to about 15mph, releasing pedal and feeling for ABS), brake or reverse lights either!
Have changed the blown fuse F2 (brake and reverse lights) in driver's glove box. All is working and I've saved myself a costly visit to my dealer who has had over £2000 off me in the last year... clutch, broken bonnet release cable with bonnet shut (7 hours' labour!!), diff leaking oil and broken fuel injector, plus servicing etc.
I hope this can help anyone who is stuck.
Bye for now.
