DIY Transmission Fluid Change
I have a 2002 Freelander SE. I am thinking of changing the transmission fluid myself, but I have already heard of special tools and something about transmission temps needing to be exact. Anyone who has done this successfully and can give me any tips please post. If I need to take it in to the shop, no big deal. I would just rather do it myself.
The biggest thing you need to be aware of is your tranny doesn't take regular ATF, you have to buy the fluid from Rover and it is expensive. Using any other fluid can kill your tranny in days.
dont do it. ive seen way too many people screw it up on these cars. take it to a shop, that way if something happens its on them, not you. and trust me, 150 bucks or so for a flush is far less then a new tranny.
My Rover shop manual says that it needs ATF Dexron III fluid. I bought the Amsol full synthetic ATF III fluid and my Land Rover shop mgr said that will work fine.
Is he wrong?
