Freelander 2, oil leak behind LH rear wheel arch !
Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help. I have a 2010 Freelander 2 TDi with 33k miles. Today I noticed a small pool of oil in the garage. It had dripped from the LH rear mudflap, seemingly from behind the plastic wheel arch. I cannot find the source of what looks like clean engine or transmission oil. I suspected a shock absorber leak, but there seem to be no traces of oil on the shock or the wheel , tyre or brake components, or on the rear diff. or transmission or drive shafts.
Fluid levels at the front of the car i.e. engine oil, brake fluid, coolant , washer bottle all seem normal. No other leaks on the clean garage floor.
Has anyone any idea where this oil has come from ? There hasn't been a spillage or anything in the luggage area.
Does anyone know where the rear diff or haldex unit vent pipes go ?
I wonder if they vent somewhere above the rear wheel arch ?
About a month ago a LR main dealer repaired the rear diff. pinion bearing. I suppose either the diff or haldex unit could have been overfilled with oil.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

I hope now that the problem has been solved, but will be keeping an eye open for vented transmission fluid.
Interesting to find out where the rear diff vents to !
