Default Oil in Coolant

I have a 2004 Freelander V6 HSE, which I bought in New Jersey 2 years ago.

1 year ago the engine overheated and I had the thermostat and a couple of tubes replaced at the dealer. 1 month ago, the engine overheated again and after topping up with coolant each week, I noticed oil in the coolant and a coolant smell from the exhaust. I took it to the dealer 2 times, and they just said it was at least a head gasket problem, or more probably a cylinder sleeve problem and that I needed a new engine. They offered me $1500 for the car. I was very annoyed by this as it has only 64,000 miles on it.

Any advice? Is it really game over? I really enjoy driving the car, so am very sad to lose it, especially for so little.

Pete

Said story it might just be curtain time. I too have a 04 and so far its been good. Is the oil mixing into the coolant tank. If so it could just be a cooler line. But then again it over heated. Do a search tons of info about this. Good luck

Just sold it for $4000 to a guy who thinks he can fix it up. I hope he can have better luck with it. Some day in the future, I'll buy a Land Rover once again...
