Default Timing Belt

02 Freelander SE with 93,000 on the clock. Am I running a serious risk on the timing belt as I haven't had it changed yet!?! Just had a new fuel pump and filter installed for just over $1K. I'm about broke. I know if the belts go it's a new engine but how reliable are these belts? Is it common for them to last longer than 100K?

Land Rover requires that timing belts are needed to be replaced on an FL at 72k. There are 3 belts that you need to buy.
2 - P/N LHN100420L at $149.00 ea.
1 - P/N LHN100410L at $266.00 ea.

Since you are already changing the belts you can also include changing the water pump. No idea on how much??? anyone there knows how much a water pump could be for a FL?

Any idea how much labor this would take for the belts? The mechanic who works on my freelander usually charges about $75 per hour. I just need to get rid of this vehicle I think, it's all repairs now. I'm now losing coolant too ... when does it stop!?!

Took me about 6 hours with the landrover timing tools.. not an easy job without them and a lot of work required to get to the front belt..

How much coolant are you loosing ? this model is well known for slipped cylinder liners that then leak coolant into the cylinder.. quick check by dropping the oil pan and seeing how much sludge is in there..

If not that check the thermostat and fittings, plastic elbow and tube there that is also known for cracks.. while your doing the timing belt and water pump you should also consider replacing this.. about $ 130 for the parts..

I just pulled apart a freelander with 74k miles, and the front timing belt was covered in cracks and stretched significantly. The rear belts looked like new though. I wouldn't risk running the old belt for long.

Land Rover of St. Louis (Plaza) has quoted me $2,100 (parts and labor)to replace the timing belts. Hourly rate is $124.95 with 7 hours of labor. Is that a decent price? Do I have to replace all 3 or can I just replace the most worn?

auto parts warehouse has the main belt for around $74 and cambelts $46 apiece, ive done many i dont know about that price you mentioned but, we where told to price 9 hours with coolant pump and make sure the upper tensioner is not worn out (usually indicated by belt damage to upper cover) scott
