Default 03 Mercedes to 03 Range Rover HSE? Good Idea

hello,

I currently own an 2003 Mercedes CL500, which is a pretty solid vehicle. The only complaint I have is the ABC suspension which is a pain. Because of this I am contemplating trading it for a 2003-04 Range Rover HSE. I like the look and I wouldn't mind driving a truck. But I've got a lot of mixed reviews (60% bad) from Range Rover from owners online, and from mechanics. I know parts are expensive, I've heard about the electrical problems, the air suspension, fluid leaks etc...So now I am a bit hesitant on making the trade. That's the reason why Im here. Can you tell me about your experiences & problems, do you think it would be a wise decision...thanks in advance

First off they ae completely diffeent types of vehicles so you cannot really compare them. If you are bothered by little annoyances around electrical parts or replacing stuff then the Rover is not for you. If you can service it like it should and deal wiht the odd WTF then you should be fine.

They are not bad vehicles, they just need more love than a Toyota.

Unless you need a truck what is really the point in trading a 03 for a 03? At least get yourself something a little newer. That being said if you take care of the Rover it will take care of you! I have had a 98 a Disco and now a 02 Range Rover and really have not had any huge issues with either.

I have had my 02 RR for a while now and no issues. It has 81,000 and running strong. But between me and you and the forum. I spoil the truck and keep up with any recommended maintenance. Be good to your vehicle whatever it might be and it will take care of you!

I have an 03 HSE with just over 100k and love it. The only issue is the odometer display is missing some pixels.

2003 and up Range Rovers are complex cars. If you are getting it from a dealer look into and extended warrantee (probably too expensive). Otherwise be prepared for a $100 repair for check engine light or $500 for breaks, or $75 air filter. etc. While I agree with everyone here saying the car will take you anywhere and will not let you down, there are these anoying problems that can crop up and will take time and money to fix. I love my 2006 RR SC and will keep for a very long time. It is as comfortible as a Mercedes, more solid, four wheel drive, better looking (I think), has room in back for dogs or whatever. Good luck.

Completely different vehicles. We have both -Mercedes and 2 Rovers. I wouldn't buy a RR that was made after 2005, when Ford bought them... My '10 is nothing more than a fancy Ford- problem after problem.. The '03 was built way better so you'd be good there. I love the Rover and wont go back
